Khloe Kardashian is opening up about the random run-in that eventually led to her reuniting with ex-husband Lamar Odom after nearly a decade.
The Good American co-founder returned to the On Purpose podcast on May 5 for the first time in six years, sitting down with host Jay Shetty for a lengthy conversation about navigating heartbreak amid public judgment, overcoming self-doubt and how her life has changed since entering her 40s, among other honest and vulnerable topics.
During the chat, Kardashian revealed the surprising backstory to her 2024 reunion with Odom after years of no contact. She explained that she was in Las Vegas for the Super Bowl last year when her best friend Malika Haqq randomly ran into the former pro basketball star in a hotel lobby.
"They both just started crying because they were really close and just embraced and they exchanged numbers and so that's how the first intro happened," she said.
The Kardashians star reflected on the "weird" timing as she had just found Odom's late mother's driver's license the week before. She had previously found more of his personal effects and his mom's possessions in her attic when moving a few years ago and had decided to hold on to them until she could give them to Odom directly. Malika suggested that now could be the time to finally give Odom the belongings, but Kardashian had to "think it over."
"It took a few months for me to want her to reach out to say like, do you want to meet up with me?" she said. "I didn't want to just drop it off. I wanted to see him and make sure still that he was doing okay."
Kardashian and Odom got married in 2009 and separated in 2013, eventually finalizing their divorce three years later. Earlier this year, she shared the "pivotal moment" in their marriage amid Odom's drug addiction that ultimately led to their divorce. The exes' reunion was featured in an episode of The Kardashians that aired in February.
